Updates and my favorite blogger’s posts this month at Our Little Red House.

“The secret to being happy is accepting where you are in life and making the most out of everyday”

I am so glad January is over. Although this was not an easy month, there were some wonderful things that did happen. One of them was that we got some flowers around our desert after the rains. I hate gray days, but once the sun comes out, the little flowers around the desert are so beautiful to see.I try to view life this way. Always looking forward to the sunshine and flowers after the storms. I will be sharing this hike later in a future post with you all.

This month we have been keeping very busy with organizing and finishing up some of our up-cycled projects. Oh my gosh, I have so many. I even went second hand shopping and picked a few more projects up to add to my already long list of unfinished products. Can’t wait to turn all these bargain items into pretty and new up-cycled pieces. The washboard was $2, the stool was $3 and everything else ranged in prices of $1-$3.

DSC_1161.JPG

I also picked up a really cool tool tray for $3. This thing was heavy and big. I am not sure what I am going to use it for at the moment but thought it might make a nice herb garden for my kitchen.

DSC_1189.JPG

I do know that I will not be painting it. The wood coloring on it is just too unique and pretty. This tray has seen a lot of hard days. There is a history here and all the little scratches and grooves tell that story. No way am I painting over that.

DSC_1191.JPG

My husband and son have been working on my gift from the heart, a country farm table and it is coming along very nicely.

DSC_1227.JPG

. In organizing, I received some empty cookie containers from one of my relatives and spray painted all the tops white. They are perfect for storing my handmade pompoms. I have been collecting these throughout the year so you may have seen these on other posts. They sell these types of containers in the stores for over $3 each. If you buy a lot of bulk items or you know someone who does, save them for storage. It’s best to keep as much as possible out of the dumps as we can.

.DSC_1022.JPG

I was able to hit a couple of stores for some great after Christmas sales but I missed the 90% off days. I watched that on YouTube and was shocked and amazed at all the items that went for bargain prices. It was a good thing I missed those sales, I am trying to downsize my home some. Wow, did it look like fun. I picked up some ornaments, mini trees, candles and one really cool basket that I plan on doing something really nice, weaving different colors of yarns through it.

DSC_1163.JPG

The ornaments reminded me of my Grandma’s Christmas days.

DSC_1188.JPG

Oh, and if you guys live in the states here and have a Dollartree store, go check out their Spring items that they are putting out now. I am not getting anything for promoting this, it is just that sometimes new items at the dollar stores sell out fast, just thought I let you all know. They have so many cute things. I picked up these adorable little garden gnomes. They won’t be staying long in my house. I give out lots of plants from clippings in my garden and these will be the perfect accessory to go with those gifts.

DSC_1169.JPG

The chickens are doing good. We continue to get fresh eggs daily. There was a coyote seen a couple blocks from us. To think we have a problem with wildlife here in the middle of the city is crazy but we do. Welcome to Arizona. One neighbor even caught a hawk hanging out in her chicken coop.

DSC_1077.JPG

Our chickens will peck on the back door to remind us to feed them. At least these three do all the time. It freaked me out the first time I heard them . It makes me laugh now.

DSC_1083.JPG

Here in the city we got cold temperatures and even some rain which means snow up north at Our Little Red House. A friend of ours sent us this photo to show us how pretty it was. We couldn’t make it up because our truck had some problems that week and we had to take it to the shop for repairs. So happy our friend was able to share some wonderful Winter land photos with us…thanks Liz.

All in all, it’s been a pretty good month. I was even surprised to see that I hit 400 followers this month. There are not enough thank yous in the world to show how much I appreciate all you followers and just the encouragement you spread to me and others as well.

That’s about it for our update on whats been happening here at Our Little Red House. Before I go on with my favorite bloggers this month and their posts I want everyone to keep a couple blogging friends of mine in their prayers and well wishes.

Dandelion B’s Diary of me-(https://wordpress.com/read/feeds/91624970) her little boy broke his collar bone. Poor little guy, I hope he gets better soon.

Margaret from Soulfood101blog-(https//wordpress.com/read/blogs/123138941) Margaret is one of the kindest humans out there. Please keep her in your prayers that she feels back to her self and has lots more energy soon.

Restless roots- (https.//wordpress.com/read/blogs/124673962) They are doing so well with their beautiful cabin by the lake but they have come across some little issues here and there that kind of threw things all out of wack this month. They are still going for it and accomplishing their dream. Send out prayers and well wishes that things start going more smoothly for them in building their beautiful home.

Okay….now for my favorite posts this month.

Thank you Kathy for stopping by my site for a visit and following me now. You are one of my favorite new followers this month. Sometimes I don’t have much time to search out other crafters so it’s always a pleasure when one stops by for me to follow back. Love your crafts by the way. You are super creative.

Patty Thurlby- Tea stained ballerina mixed media (https://wordpress.com/read/feeds/68606431/posts/2130388977)

Favorite new blogger I am following this month:

Hunting for vintage-for the love of old things (https://wordpress.com/read/blogs/45491597/posts/34324)

Fun…that’s what this site is all about. A thrift store shopper with goodie bags full of treasures. She even gives tips on selling second hand. What a great site. This was another one of my searches I discovered this month. It is one of my goals to search out a new blogger to follow and visit at least once a month. I forgot how fun these searches could be.

Favorite “Just because I loved reading it” posts:

Edmark M. Law- Japanese Rice paddy art (https://wordpress.com/read/blogs/93710603/posts/13183)

I didn’t even know these existed. What a beautiful site to see. Thank you Edmark for sharing this. I love seeing the beauty out there in the world. How fun this would be to visit in person.

Laura-from all the shoes I wear- A complicated Grace pt 1- (https://wordpress.com/read/blogs/142266435/posts/4341)

This is a two part post, so be sure to read the second part. Laura always makes me smile and laugh with some of her posts but this one will give you goosebumps. She has a talent when it comes to writing, she can get your emotions out of you through her words alone. Laura also reminds us that even though there are struggles, there are also happy endings. It is refreshing to read from someone who turned their hard aches and struggles into love and kindness, those positive traits. If there is a lesson here, it’s how not to turn to hate, bitterness and misery when life throws you a curve ball. God only gives us what he knows we can handle.

3C Style– (https://wordpress.com/read/blogs/114273120/posts/11179) Love their fashion and nature Winter issue. They have Alpacas everyone…super cute.

That’s it for now. If you are not on here, it is only because I didn’t have a whole lot of time to visit as many of you that I would have liked to, plus, some of you I visited after I wrote this up.

I have so many projects to finish and goals to accomplish. I can’t wait to share with you all some of my Spring projects. And we are planning on some more Arizona hikes.

Sometimes I will share my photos from hiking with one of my relatives. She has a bad back and is in pain from that. I like to think she gets to experience the hike along with me through my photos and words. So for any of you who may not be feeling your best, I hope the hiking posts of mine send a little sunshine your way. I will try to keep up with everyone more this New Year too which is one of my many goals.

There are so many great bloggers out there. Thank you again everyone who follows me, likes and comments, you really have helped me heal and you all are great therapy. God bless you, your family and friends. Stay safe and healthy out there in the world. I hope you get a chance to visit these bloggers, they will definitely cheer you up if you are having post holiday blues.

Happy blogging everyone.

It’s a wonderful feeling to see some flowers blooming, it’s a joy to your eyes 🙂 wow, I love the wooden tray you’ve got, can’t wait for your up-cycled projects, especially the tray, but I agree with you, the tray itself is already a beauty, just accessory it (like you said herb garden) then it would look more prettier. Thank you so much for mentioning my love bottles, so thrilled that you appreciate my works! 🙂 Happy February! 🙂

That is something that your great, great, great grandkids will be sitting around eating, doing crafts, and making memories at because it will last forever 🙂 🙂 I appreciate you asking for prayer, and not just for me but for the others as well. You are a blessing 🙂

    1. Thank you Margaret, as always you have a kind and loving heart. I do hope you are feeling better. I have noticed some sadness out there in the world, so we all have a lot of praying to do. I am having so much fun with that wooden tray. It is a great storage tray for my yarns when I am working on projects, also makes a fun photo prompt. I will probably end up using it for multiply things, mostly a really pretty garden tray for the Spring time.

  7. I absolutely loved reading this post! Since my husband and I are building our little 560sq ft home I understand trying to downsize. I love to upcycle but my space and my husband not as much 😂. Thank for sharing!

    1. Thank you and you’re welcome, so happy you liked it. I am trying so hard to downsize and just organize my life. I didn’t realize all the work involved but it feels great once I accomplish something. Even those tiny drawers of clutter help out once everything has a place. I wish I had a garage to store mu up-cycled projects in. Your home is going to look so pretty once you finish it. especially since you know how to remake things and turn them into pretty pieces.

I am glad January is over too and Feb will be spent recharging. Our LO collar bone seems to be healing nicely, we will have an xray done feb 19th.
I cant belive all those gems you got for under $3 each! I love painting wood but even i wouldnt paint that tray.you are so right about it having history.

    1. So happy to hear about your little boy’s collar bone is healing, it is awful when someone we love is hurting. I hate that, especially us moms, we love our babies, we never want to see them suffering. Oh and about painting wood, I also love doing that. I think I drive my husband crazy sometimes because he things all wood items should remain paint free, but sometimes a little chalk paint never hurts.

My dad waa the same, if he was alive he would give me an earful about painting wood, he almost lost his mind when i stripped and sanded my all wood kitchen cupboard doors lol.

      2. So funny, but some things do look better painted. I do love wood though so I understand my husband’s view sometimes, even if we don’t always agree. I am off to eat dinner now. Had a chance to catch up a little on my blog sites. I was off for awhile. I am keeping busy with organizing, at least trying to.

    1. The Alpacas are trending everywhere right now. I have always loved them, they are so cute. Then I love all animals. Your post was amazing, the colors, the photographs and the styles you put together to match nature. You are so good at that, just passing that on so others can see it.

      3. Wow, thanks. I can tell from your post and your fashion style that you both have been blessed with an artist eye. I wonder if some people can see colors like bees. If that were the case, it would explain why those people end up loving nature too.

I was curious about your question and searched for an answer. I found out In very rare instances, people can see into the ultra-violet range. Usually, it’s after a lens injury or cataract surgery. This condition is called aphakia. People with aphakia see a “near” UV light. It is perceived as a whitish-blue or whitish-violet color. The French impressionist painter Claude Monet had this condition after cataract surgery. Before the surgery, his cataracts were so bad that his color range was limited to red and orange. After the surgery his paintings included deep purple and blue hues.

      5. Wow, that is so interesting, Monet paintings are beautiful. I always wondered about that and how some people seem to see things differently. Thanks, now I have a bit of unique info. to pass onto my family during one of our long road trips. They always have fun with the crazy things I bring up on road trips. Who knows, maybe in the future, instead of wearing regular glasses they will sell special glasses to show others what other animals and insects see when they view our world…maybe it will connect us all a little better. Kind of like walking in each others shoes but this will be seeing through each others eyes.

Oh, how i miss dollar stores stateside. I used to go to the 99 Cents Only Store in LA for everything, when i lived there. The stores siimlar to them cost either $1.50 or $1.95 here. Pooh.

    Liked by 1 person

    1. Oh my gosh, I know what you are talking about. The dollar stores are going up in prices. We still have Dollartree here and everything there is $1 but the 99 cent store now has items in it that are priced as high as $20. They did that about a couple years ago. Right now it is all about Easter decorations and there are some really cute items.
